• Open the badge share link or paste the badge code into Digital Badge SA Verify.
• Confirm issuer name matches an organisation you trust.
• Confirm not revoked and check expiry if present.
• Read criteria — what evidence was required?
• Optionally ask for supporting evidence (portfolio, transcript).

Red flags

• Issuer unknown with no web presence
• Criteria blank or vague (“attended a webinar”) for high-stakes claims
• Revoked assertion presented as valid
• Image-only “badge” with no verification endpoint
